Reach overhead again
The shoulder is held together by muscle more than any joint you own. Testing those muscles is where answers start.
A joint built on teamwork
The shoulder trades stability for range: a shallow socket held together by the rotator cuff and a team of stabilizers, coordinated with the shoulder blade and even the neck. When one muscle in that team goes offline, the others strain, the joint rides wrong, and tissue starts complaining.
That is why shoulder MRIs so often show fraying that is a result, not the cause. The cause is usually functional, and function is testable.
Test the team, fix the weak link
AMIT testing checks each muscle of the shoulder complex directly, including the ones standard exams skip. Inhibited muscles get reactivated on the spot, joints from the neck to the shoulder blade get adjusted where they are stuck, and stubborn tendon tissue gets StemWave when it needs the push.
Strength returning on the retest, same visit, is the usual first proof.

Some shoulders start higher up
Nerves from the neck drive every shoulder muscle. Upper-neck restriction, especially at the skull junction OTZ addresses, shows up in shoulders often enough that we examine both every time.
The neck connectionTried everything usually means one thing
Rest, pills, generic exercises, maybe an injection. What is almost never on the list is direct muscle testing. That gap is why stubborn shoulders respond here.

Frozen shoulder has its own dedicated technique here, and the rest of the shoulder toolbox goes deep.
Shoulder pain, answered
Do I need an MRI first?
Usually not. The exam and muscle testing localize most shoulder problems, and imaging is added when findings would change the plan. Bring any imaging you already have.
Can a frozen shoulder be helped?
Early and mid-stage cases often respond well, particularly when the upper neck and shoulder stabilizers are addressed together, which is the OTZ plus AMIT pattern. Long-frozen shoulders take longer and honesty about that comes with the exam.
Why does my shoulder click?
Clicking alone is common and often harmless; clicking with pain or weakness suggests the joint is riding off-center because its muscular team is uncoordinated. That coordination is exactly what testing evaluates.
Why does my shoulder hurt at night?
Lying on the shoulder compresses irritated tissue, and some conditions, frozen shoulder especially, are famous for night pain on that side. When it hurts, and in which position, helps the exam separate a cuff problem from a capsule problem.
Can a desk job cause shoulder pain?
Yes. Rounded sitting posture parks the shoulder blade in the wrong position, the rotator cuff loses its mechanical advantage, and small impingements accumulate into a painful shoulder. Restoring how the blade moves beats massaging the sore spot.
